Pay early completion bonuses
Re “Adopting 24-hour road work schedule would alleviate issues for Winnipeg businesses,” Kevin Klein, June 29: You wrote about the slow work on construction. Another idea would be to pay contractors a bonus for the project if it is completed earlier than scheduled. This would get them moving.
Greg Penner
That’d be a good policy for the city to adopt. We’d like to add: on or under budget, as well.

She paid back about 15% of what she expensed for a family vacation leaving it up to the taxpayers to pick up the rest. This should be news when she pays back everything. Jim Roberts Now that would really be news. Fall from grace Justin Trudeau and his obedient ministers are twisting themselves into knots trying to put the best possible spin on their catastrophic by-election loss. They promise to listen and work harder for Canadians after this learning experience. Trust us and everything will be great, Justin seems to be saying. Reminds me of a man falling from the top of a skyscraper yelling, “So far, so good” as he passes each floor on the way down. Tom Empey And the Liberals keep on falling.
Article content Take a reality check, Trudeau Last week, in another tone deaf analysis, Justin Trudeau claimed that Canadians aren’t yet in “decision mode” regarding his leadership and his government. Monday’s surprise Conservative byelection win in Toronto-St. Paul’s shows that not only are they fed-up with this poser-prime minister, but they are also highly motivated to “decide” now. An impressive 44% of eligible voters cast a ballot, far higher than average by-election numbers that are usually in the mid-to-high 20s. Mr. Prime Minister, don’t you think that maybe it’s also time for you to decide? Al Willey Trudeau won’t go until he’s forced out. Party poopers Well what’s next for the Liberals after their crushing defeat in Toronto-St. Paul’s? I can see it now: A four-day party conference at some far-away five-star retreat and spa complete with wagyu beef, lobster tail and of course imported Russian caviar, not to mention $200 bottles of champagne. Theme of said conference: `How to get people to like us again.’ Tom Tonen Yep, that sums it up.
